: Group tour: Half day tour of the Royal Palace & a visit to

The beautiful ROYAL PALACE, one of the best-preserved in all of
Europe, is a fine example of 18th-century domestic regal architecture.
It has enormous cultural and political symbolism as well. As the
embodiment of Madrid as the capital of the Spanish realms, it is
the site of glittering official receptions, royal audiences, gala
dinners, and treaty signing ceremonies, as well as the presentation
of credentials by diplomats to His Majesty the King.
Our visit will include the Principal staircase,
the chambers of the Alabarderos, columns, throne, Gasparini, and
Carlos III; the porcelain room; the Gala Dining Room; the Museum
of Silver; the Museum of Musical Instruments; the Principal Courtyard;
the Royal Chapel; and the New Rooms
The PRADO MUSEUM is housed in a neoclassic building
designed by the noted architect Juan deVillanueva in 1785. Originally
planned as a natural history museum, it has been the home of the
finest collection of Spanish masters since 1818.
Our visit includes masterpieces by El Greco, Velázquez
and Goya; works of artists of the Golden Century, including Ribera,
Zurbarán and Murillo; and the works of the Italian Titian.
The tour will conclude at the Tour terminal, Oriente
Square, Madrid. Our local rep will escort you to your hotel
DAY 3 — MADRID, CORDOBA, SEVILLE
(B) - Thursday
We meet up at the hotel to escort you this morning to the coach
terminal in Oriente Square in Madrid and set out by 9 a.m., making
the most of our time aboard to introduce ourselves to each other
and learn more about what lies ahead. Our route takes us into La
Mancha, the landscape of romance and adventure where Don Quixote
tilted at windmills. We’ll wind across hills and down into
irrigated valleys, to Puerto Lápice, a town lost in time,
looking much as it did in the seventeenth century. We might even
espy the establishment where an innkeeper conferred knighthood upon
Don Quixote. Then we’ll pass onward through the region of
Valdepeñas, where fine Tempranillo grapes are grown, and
cross the Canyon of Despeñaperros, and pass through the town
of Bailén on our way to Cordoba. Here we’ll visit the
famous Mosque, one of the most notable in the days of Moorish rule.
Then we’ll continue onward to Andalusia, where comfortable
beds await us in Seville.

DAY 4 — SEVILLE (B) Friday
We’ll stay all day in Seville, where the Moors have left their
mark in whitewashed houses, tile roofs, graceful archways, and a
warren of intimate lanes with surprises at every turn. Our visit
will take us to the monumental and stunning tower of La Giralda,
the Cathedral that once echoed with daily calls to prayer, and the
Palace of the Alcazar, with its delicately carved stonework and
pleasure gardens that still delight. Your afternoon is free to wander
the alleyways of Seville on your own, and perhaps to stop in and
sample the tapas at an inviting establishment. ( Breakfast )
DAY 5 — SEVILLE, GRANADA (B) Saturday
We say adiós to Seville this morning, and embark across Andalusia,
the spectacular ridge of the Sierra Nevada forming a backdrop to
our journey, coated in snow well into springtime. With all the spectacular
vistas along the way, we’ll be in Granada before we know it.
We’ll visit the Palace of the Alhambra, which inspired caliphs,
conquerors, and writers as noted as Washington Irving, with its
magnificent rooms and intricately decorated Moorish archways. We’ll
stroll through its fabled Generalife gardens and summer residence
of the caliphs, of course, and there will be time to wander and
shop on your own before you retire to your lodgings.
DAY 6 — GRANADA (B) Sunday
Take your time! We’ve built an extra day into this itinerary
to allow you to explore Granada independently. Perhaps you’ll
return to the fabled Alhambra for a stroll through its fantastical
gardens. Or, you can wander the Albaicin, the last quarter of the
city occupied by the Moors, with its charming maze of alleys lined
with houses with secret patios. According to whim and interest,
you’ll visit the museum of composer Manuel de Falla, or the
Fine Arts or Archaeology museum, or spend your day café-sitting
and shopping. We’ll be pleased to arrange a tour, if you wish,
from a number of options.
DAY 7 —GRANADA, TOLEDO, MADRID (B)
Monday
Our northward route takes us back through central Spain, to the
historic city of Toledo, where fine steelmaking is a tradition and
a craft, where Jews and Muslims and Christians all flourished in
the Golden Age of Moorish Spain. Notable sights will include the
Cathedral, of course, with masterpieces by El Greco; and the Alcázar,
a fortress sight from Roman times right into this century. Afternoon
will see us back aboard the coach, on our way to Madrid.
In Madrid. Our local rep will escort you from
the terminal to hotel
Can you spare few extra days?
Then by all means spend it in the fabled land of castles and Moorish
delights of southern Spain. you’ll attain and enjoy the most
remarkable sights, from the lush gardens of the Generalife where
caliphs once pondered weighty decisions, to the imposing Alhambra
of Granada and the Alcazar of Seville. You’ll marvel at the
terraced gardens and lush river valleys that surprise you in the
stark and beautiful landscape, and you’ll have an extra day
to enjoy and take inspiration from the treasures and landmarks of
three cultures in Granada.
