Day 1 : ARRIVE TOKYO
You arrive today at the New Tokyo International Airport (Narita). After
clearing immigration and customs , you'll retrieve your baggage and
make your way to the the
shuttle van counter in the arrival lobby on the first floor.
Welcome to Tokyo! Your van ride to your hotel will provide a first view
of the Japanese capital, so modern and familiar, and yet so different.
Streets are busy but orderly and neat, lights and signs glitter everywhere,
alternating with serene green oases.
Your
hotel room-at the Shinagawa Prince hotel, Le Meridien Pacific Tokyo
, or another establishment, as selected ( see list below) , will be
ready as early as noon. Your tour vouchers and coupons for the return
to the airport will be available at the front desk, along with an invitation
to a welcome cup of coffee. After you check in, it's time to get to
know Tokyo on your own, and appreciate its urban life: spotless streets,
a pace that's fast but always in control, bicycles left unlocked, vending
machines dispensing superb hot coffee in cans (or whiskey, if you wish),
and (some) signs in English.
Day
2 : TOKYO
We'll call for you this morning and take you on a visit that puts everything
in this busy but orderly city into perspective. You'll ascend to the
observatory of Tokyo Tower for a view of the metropolis, and continue
onward to participate in a traditional tea ceremony at Happoen Garden.
We'll then stop at the plaza of the Imperial Palace, with a chance to
view the tranquil gardens in the very heart of the city. Lunch ( included)
is at the Chinzanso Garden Restaurant, with a subtlety of flavors and
marinades that gives new meaning to "barbecue." Then it's
on past the Diet (say "dee-yet"!), Japan's parliament, to
a pier on the Sumida River, where we'll embark on a boat tour and cruise
to Asakusa. Here, we'll stop at the Asakusa Kannon Temple with its great
traditional archway, and stroll the Nakamise shopping street with its
displays of wares. Finally, we'll pass through throbbing Ginza, where
space is in such high demand that restaurants and stores climb to the
second and third and fourth floors of every building. Our local rep
will assist with your transfers back to your lodgings by taxi or the
efficient subway system.

Day
3 : Shopping tour with a Private guide - TOKYO (L)
Ride
the efficient Subway and public transportation alongside the locals
today ( always escorted with your English speaking Guide) ! We take
pride in affording you this experience, entirely by public transportation,
with orientation by our English-speaking representative. You'll get
to tour Tokyo fascinating shopping districts by subway and/ or taxi.
Enjoy lunch (included) at a charming local restaurant before we head
back to the hotel . Depending on your own interest , the guide ( 9 AM
- 5 PM ), will be glad to custom tailor the stops to accommodate your
interest : Shopping for : Beads, Japanese paper, yarn, fabrics, ceramic
etc. . The guide will escort you back to the hotel, unless you wish
to continue exploring Tokyo on your own.
Day
4 : DEPART FROM TOKYO
Continue to explore Tokyo today. Perhaps you'll browse the stores or
enjoy the the tranquility of a park, or take a local subway train to
explore a residential neighborhood. Your room will be available until
noon, but you can check your luggage at the desk. Make sure to verify
departure times on your voucher-we'll make a reservation to fit your
flight schedule. When it's time, meet your airport shuttle , and it's
off to Narita for your onward flight.
Extend
a day in Tokyo, enjoy a private shopping tour with a private English
speaking guide , add a walking tour
of Kamakura . Or add an Onsen stay
