Ah,
la cucina! The pleasure of fine Italian cooking is not only in the preparation.
It involves the selection of the finest ingredients. Italians can distinguish
a cheese by the pasture where its raw milk originated. A recipe will
never call for mere ham, but Prosciutto or Parma, with a pedigree as
fine as that of any wine. With Travel in Style, you'll experience every
aspect of the regional cuisine of Campania. You'll be lodged not at
a hotel, but at a classic rural farmstead furnished with antiques, and
surrounded by lemon and orange groves.
All
dinners will be prepared and served by qualified instructors, who will
share their techniques and secrets. On daily outings, you'll learn how
country-style bread is made from scratch, and find out that real pizza
is not an American invention after all. And of course, you'll taste
the experience all along the way. Buon Appetito!

DAY
1 - ARRIVAL IN ITALY - Naples (D) Sat
Our representative will meet you at the airport of Naples, and escort
you by private car to your lodgings at an Agriturism farm house in Santa
Agata Dei due Golfi, in the region of Sorrento, situated with views
to both the Bay of Naples and Salerno. Here you'll enjoy a hearty dinner-
-Italians know no other kind- -and you'll have time to explore the operations
on the property. If you're familiar with mechanized farming elsewhere,
you'll be surprised at how so many tasks are still done on a small scale,
with attention to detail.
DAY
2 - BREAD and PASTA (BLD) Sun
Today, we'll journey to a farm in Massa Lubrense for a lesson in the
art and science of traditional Italian bread-making. Instruction takes
place in a onetime monastery set in a grove of lemon trees, where the
signoras of the farmstead reveal their secrets of dough preparation,
finding the right yeast, exactly how long to allow the loaves to rise,
and the proper baking techniques. After a farm lunch, we'll take a short
trip to Sorrento, where we'll have time to stroll the streets of the
waterside town. Then its back to our lodgings for dinner and a night's
rest.
DAY
3 - MOZZARELLA (BLD) Mon
Traditional mozzarella cheese is made in the shape of a "treccia." Today,
we'll visit a farm where the old ways are used to prepare and mold the
cheese. After a rest and free time at our farm lodgings, we'll step
out to dinner at a traditional taverna.
DAY
4 - POMPEII (BLD) Tue
After breakfast at the farm, we'll head up the coast to the remains
of ancient Pompeii, in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. We'll spend a morning
at the excavations. Then it will be our privilege to take lunch and
a cooking lesson in one of the most exclusive restaurants of the South,
Il Principe di Pompeii. Our syllabus will even include some ancient
Roman recipes. Dinner will be at our farm lodgings.

DAY 5 - PIZZA, AMALFI, POSITANO (BLD) Wed
Today, we'll head for Vico Equense and one of the oldest pizzerias in
the South, to learn about the preparation of the genuine item. After
lunch, we'll follow the Amalfi coast and stop at Positano, before returning
to our lodgings for dinner.
DAY
6 - CAKES (BD) Thu
We'll leave in the morning for Naples, where we'll tour the historical
center of the city, the heart of the South. But we'll also have a serious
purpose, as we head to the oldest Neapolitan pastry shop. Here we'll
learn how to prepare authentic sfogliatella. Afterwards, we'll have
time to wander the city on our own, before we return to our farm lodgings
for dinner.
DAY
7 - DEPARTURE FOR Rome or Home (B) Fri
Our personnel will meet you after breakfast and see you to the airport
by private car to begin your homeward journey.
