Rome
| “In a hut over the banks
of river Tiber, lived a couple of shepherds Faustolo and Laurenzia. One
night Faustolo heard a murmur in the woods, cursiously he went to see
what had happened. The ground was full of puddles in which one of them
laid at the foot of the tree from where he saw a wolf nursing twin boys.
He returned to the hut and told his wife what he had seen, who didn’t
believe the story about a wolf giving milk to twin children… Not
long after the children were taken to the hut where the shepherds brought
them up to be strong and healthy. Faustolo called them Rumulus and Remus”……So
the legend goes about the beginning of the most fascinating city in the
world. Apparently the twins were the children the Rea Silvea who was raped
by mars and thus abandoned the children to a wolf. When they grew up they
formed the boundaries of the city and eventually fought over who should
rule the city, Romulus killed Remus and became the first king, hence the
name Rome. Italy’s most historic city is ideally explored on foot,
therefore discovering the streets once inhabited by Roman councils and
emperors, stopping off at the large piazzas where lie monumental churches,
visiting the lively markets and taste local cuisine, or simply wandering
around the wonderful streets and discover the Spanish steps, Piazza Navona,
Trevi Fountain and St.Peter’s square. The list is endless, however
even just a short break gives a memorable flavour of this enchanting city.
