Shore Excursion: Zante

Tour ZANTE
Island Tour

Lying a short distance off the north-western tip of the Peloponnese and south of the islands of Corfu and Cephalonia , Zakynthos is the sixth of the seven Ionian isles known as the Eptanissa .
Your tour today will commence with a visit to the beautiful suburb of Bohali . Located under the Venetian Fortress, Bohali offers an incredible view of Zakynthos town and its outskirts.
The tour then continues with a visit to Maherado Village . Here you'll visit the church of the Aghia Mavra , dedicated to the Egyptian saints, Mavra and Timotheos , who were martyred in the third century AD. The famous icon of Aghia Mavra and the Virgin Mary are virtually covered with gold and silver, left by the faithful worshippers who visit to request guidance and help.
In the village of Maherado a rare and unique ceramic workshop uses techniques and design of Byzantine ceramics adapted to nowadays-technical capabilities. You'll be given some time in this workshop before you take the way back to Zante Town .
On arrival at Zakynthos explore the town through a guided walking tour passing by the main sites of interest of the island's capital such as Solomos Square , with the statue of the famous poet who wrote the Hymn of Freedom that later became the National Anthem of Greece standing in its middle. Important buildings such as the Byzantine Museum , the church of St. Nicholas and the Cultural Center of Zakinthos surround the square.
Having profited the maximum from your short stay in Zakynthos you'll reboard your coaches for the return journey to the port to re-join your ship.
